I was pulled into a very network-focused set of discussions rather than coding. In the live interview, the questions centered on routing and switching concepts like BGP and OSPF, plus how those protocols behave when something goes wrong. I was asked to walk through troubleshooting steps for BGP/OSPF issues in a way that showed I could reason through symptoms and narrow down causes.
From there, the conversation moved into the hands-on architecture side of networking. I talked about overlay and underlay ideas (including EVPN VXLAN), and I got questions tied to subnetting and how segmentation works. I also covered how features like HSRP fit into the picture and how VPC/MLAG concepts relate when you’re designing for redundancy.

My interview was unlike the others in the set because it leaned hard into telecom-style domain knowledge and project management experience, and it was clearly the toughest part of the process for me. The questions covered design and “decimation” experience, and they also probed how comfortable I was with project management work.
They went deep into international carrier and data center/colo exposure, including cross-connects and billing, and then they pushed into circuit details. There were also comparisons like Layer 1 versus Layer 2 differences, and they asked about telecom technologies and commercial negotiations.
