After I applied, my first step was a HackerRank-style coding round. Mine mixed basic probability with straightforward coding questions, and it felt very manageable if I was comfortable with standard programming and probability basics.

A follow-up HR conversation came next, but that’s where things ended for me. I remember feeling like I’d cleared the technical part cleanly, so getting screened out right after the recruiter call was a bit of a letdown.

The process started with an online assessment that, from what I was told, only a small fraction of applicants passed. Once I got through, a recruiter call set a positive tone and felt encouraging.

The technical screen right after was the one that threw me off. The interviewer opened by introducing herself and asking me to introduce myself and explain why I wanted the firm. We then shifted into my research experience, but she repeatedly seemed confused about the underlying basis and kept steering back to questions like why I would even start with the specific topic. After struggling through that, she pulled up the HackerRank link and I coded in Python for about 40 minutes.
