Easy Negative United Kingdom

A recruiter reached out and talked me through the role and my background, and I remember liking how they handled my situation with frequent changes due to layoffs. They also told me the process would be “language agnostic,” and that the first round would be DSA in C++—so I scheduled everything quickly and focused hard on C++.

On interview day, I sat down expecting to work in the language we’d aligned on, but the engineer asked me to solve a combined DSA/LLD style problem in JavaScript. I switched over to JavaScript, but it still took far longer than I expected, not because I couldn’t reason through the problem, but because the language mismatch and unfamiliar syntax slowed me down. I felt like with my C++ fluency I would’ve completed the full solution and test cases much sooner.
