My screening was centered on the role itself—what the responsibilities would look like day to day and whether I was satisfied with the work. We also talked through compensation details like salary, whether I’d be getting a raise or a hike, and how busy the work would be.
It was straightforward and mostly informational, and even though it didn’t move me toward an offer, the conversation made the job expectations and compensation topics feel very explicit from the start. Overall, I walked away understanding the priorities and what they cared about most in the role, even though I didn’t end up making it to the final steps.

From there, the next step was a case-study style interview where I was given the prompt about 30 minutes before and had to outline a high-level design for the product or feature in scope. The conversation started with my background and what I was interested in, then shifted into a mix of behavioral questions and conceptual checks, including object-oriented principles and/or data structures. After I presented my design, they pushed for clarifications and details about how I’d build it.
Following that, I went into a behavioral-focused round with a higher-up from the earlier conversation. That part leaned heavily on STAR-style stories, and it felt more like fit and communication than testing. The panel part ended up not being a heavy coding experience overall, and at times it was pretty conversational. A couple weeks later, I got an update that they’d chosen a slightly more competitive candidate. Shortly after, the recruiter contacted me again saying another team was looking for a similar role since my feedback had been good—though the overall feeling was that this first track ended without an offer.
