Key Responsibilities
As an Intermediate Marketing Analyst, you will spend approximately 80% of your time on Campaign Build and Execution. This is the core of your day-to-day, involving the hands-on configuration of campaigns in platforms like Salesforce Marketing Cloud or IBM Campaign. You will act as the technical lead for building rules, taxonomy, and segments, ensuring every deployment is accurate.
The remaining 20% is split between Campaign Strategy and Results Analysis. You will consult directly with campaign managers to define requirements and provide the post-campaign reporting necessary to evaluate success. Your role requires active collaboration with the email and print teams, acting as the primary troubleshooter for any data-related issues that arise during the campaign lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the one-way video interview difficult to navigate?
A: It can feel uncomfortable because of the lack of human interaction and the strict time limits for responses. Treat it like a presentation: maintain eye contact with the camera, speak clearly, and practice concise answers that fit within the 30-60 second windows.
Q: How much focus is there on SQL vs. general marketing knowledge?
A: The role is heavily technical; expect a significant portion of the interview to focus on your SQL skills and your ability to manage campaign data. However, you must also be able to explain the "why" behind your data work to satisfy the business-focused questions.
Q: What is the culture like at UPMC?
A: UPMC values precision, reliability, and cross-functional collaboration. The culture is professional and fast-paced, with a clear focus on delivering error-free results that support the broader organizational mission.
Other General Tips
- Prepare for the tech constraints: Since the initial round uses an automated recording system, ensure your lighting, background, and microphone are set up perfectly before you start. You will not get a second chance to re-record.
- Master your "Translation" narrative: Be prepared to provide a specific example of how you took a complex technical issue and successfully explained it to a non-technical marketing manager.
- Highlight your QA process: Explicitly mention your error-checking protocols. Because the job description emphasizes "100% error-free work," showing that you are naturally detail-oriented is a major advantage.
- Be ready for the scale: Always frame your answers in the context of large-scale, high-volume data. UPMC deals with massive datasets, and they value experience that scales.
