
The University of Utah has offered instruction since long before the Beehive State was a state. Founded in 1850 as the University of Deseret, the "U of U" has a total enrollment of some 29,000 undergraduate and graduate students, plus about 2,800 faculty members. It offers approximately 70 undergraduate majors, more than 40 teaching majors and minors, and some 100 graduate-level fields of study at about 20 colleges and schools; its business, science, humanities, and engineering departments are the university's largest.
