Difficult Negative Sunnyvale, CA

My process started with a recruiter call, then about the next step was a one-hour technical interview. I was told the technical interview would be frontend-focused, but that didn’t match what I actually got. Instead, it was algorithmic, and the problem was hard—hard enough that it felt unfamiliar to me since I hadn’t worked on something like that before.

Because it was an algorithm-focused question inside a timed interview, I had to shift my mindset quickly from what I expected to what I was actually asked. The gap between the promised direction and the real content made the round feel tougher than it needed to be. I didn’t end up with an offer, and it left me reflecting that I was less prepared for the specific style of algorithm challenge they went with.

I was preparing for a specific LLD round for a FullStack role at Uber, and the only concrete detail I had was the prompt format. The LLD interview questions included a snake and ladder style problem.

Because that was the single named topic, I walked into the process knowing the evaluation would likely revolve around designing and implementing the logic cleanly for that kind of problem. The experience didn’t include a larger sequence of rounds in the details I saw—just that LLD stage and the specific question type. I stayed focused on understanding the problem constraints and getting the implementation to behave correctly, since that seemed like what mattered for that round.
