I got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn and ended up exploring Tower Research Capital even though I hadn’t been actively looking. I wasn’t very familiar with the company going in, but the role sounded technically strong and it also made sense because my family was near Montreal. The process started with two virtual coding interviews, and I passed both.
After that, I flew to Montreal for what I was told would be a set of in-person interviews with five different people, about an hour each. That expectation didn’t quite match reality: I waited in a conference room, then was told the first interview would actually be virtual. The interviewer started with a Python question that was described as basic but ended up tricky, and it threw me off because I’d expected more senior-level systems or architecture discussion after clearing the two coding rounds.

Difficult Neutral Canada
My first interaction was almost entirely coding-focused, with very little framing around the role. There wasn’t a proper introduction or a resume walkthrough—just a coding challenge where I was asked two questions and given about thirty minutes to complete. The emphasis was on how I think using C++.
Later, I had another coding-heavy stage that leaned into Python for parsing and working with sample data sets. That round also brought out questions about my background and projects, but it still stayed anchored on writing efficient code.
