Average Neutral United States

After a recruiter call, I ended up with a technical interview that felt more like standard DSA than the object-oriented focus I’d been led to expect. The process itself was described as straightforward, and the interviewers were professional, but the communication around what would actually be evaluated didn’t line up with how it was presented to me.

The technical round started with me introducing myself and then moved into a LeetCode-style problem-solving segment. Even though the topic framing mentioned OOP, the work I did leaned heavily into classic algorithmic problem solving. Overall it didn’t feel unfair, just a bit unclear on expectations, and the end-to-end process ended up taking longer than I’d assumed it would.

Difficult Neutral Belgrade, Central Serbia

My process started with an online Codility test where I had to complete three coding problems: one built around a sliding window using a hash map, a dynamic programming challenge, and a backtracking-style problem. They told me I’d need above an 80% score to move on.

After that, I had a short talent acquisition call that lasted about 20 minutes. It was mostly a discussion of my CV and what motivated me to apply. The next round was 30 minutes of more theoretical questioning, covering algorithms and data structures, OOP concepts and design patterns, and operating system architecture. That theoretical interview was where things ended for me; I was rejected after it. The whole journey felt difficult mainly because the technical bar was set across multiple challenging formats, and the final evaluation leaned heavily on theory rather than just coding.

What to expect

Distilled from the reports

Recruiter Interaction & Communication

Initial recruiter interactions vary significantly, with some candidates experiencing smooth and professional communication, while others report delays and a lack of follow-up after interviews, leading to frustration and anxiety. Candidates should prepare for potential inconsistencies in communication and follow-up timelines.

Technical Assessments & Coding Tests

Candidates typically face a combination of online coding assessments (often via Codility) and live coding interviews, with a focus on data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. Be prepared for a range of problem types, including LeetCode-style questions and practical coding tasks under time constraints.

Interview Structure & Format

The interview process often consists of multiple rounds, including technical interviews that blend coding with theoretical questions and behavioral assessments. Candidates should expect to switch between different types of evaluations, which can be demanding and may require quick adjustments in thinking.

Focus on Object-Oriented Programming

Many interviews emphasize object-oriented design principles, requiring candidates to demonstrate their understanding of class structure, design patterns, and maintainability of code. Prepare to articulate your design choices and reasoning during coding tasks.

Behavioral Evaluation & Cultural Fit

Behavioral questions are a significant part of the interview process, often framed around past experiences and conflict resolution. Candidates should prepare to discuss specific situations using the STAR method to illustrate their fit with the company culture and values.

Overall Candidate Experience & Feedback

Candidates report mixed experiences regarding feedback and closure after interviews, with some receiving constructive feedback while others feel left in the dark post-interview. It's advisable to seek clarity and follow-up if feedback is not provided after the process.
