Difficult Positive Seoul

My interview process leaned heavily on structured technical evaluation. After the initial recruiter screen, I went into a coding assessment and then a deeper technical conversation where the focus was both problem solving and fundamentals. The technical portion was framed as “LeetCode-style” work paired with additional checks that went beyond one-off algorithms.

I remember the kind of questions I was tested on: a medium problem alongside an easy one, and then SQL queries that assessed whether I could write or reason about data manipulation and retrieval. When I reached the engineering interview stage, it still felt tightly technical, with an emphasis on clean design and how I approached the solution rather than just getting to an answer.

After applying online, I got an email from a recruiter and had a quick introductory chat about Tinder and the different teams. That moved into a take-home coding challenge where I built an online multiplayer tic-tac-toe game in Node.js using socket.io. I genuinely had fun with the project, and it felt like a real way to show how I think, not just grind through abstract puzzles.

A bit later there was an online phone interview with two coding exercises, and then the onsite. At the office, everything felt upbeat and welcoming: they had free catering for lunch and dinner, and I was expected to bring my own laptop. The onsite started with two hours to develop a REST API in Node.js backed by a database system, with the scope wide enough that I could make key decisions. I then explained what I built to two engineers, and the rest of the discussion turned into deep dives on what I coded, how I’d scale it, and a lot of database questions.
