Difficult Neutral Fremont, CA

After a recruiter screen where I went over my resume and what the next stage would look like, I had a technical interview that surprised me. I was expecting a standard DSA-style coding round, but the conversation turned into a deep dive on Java—how the language works under the hood, internals, and how garbage collection behaves. The questions also touched on language details like when you’d use things such as static.

What made it feel intense wasn’t just the topic choice, but the way the interviewer pushed for specificity. I also experienced a similar “resume into a LeetCode-style problem” vibe earlier in the process where the interviewer mostly let me work through the problem by myself after a medium coding question. Overall, I walked in thinking it would follow a more familiar pattern, and the focus on language internals (and sometimes independent problem solving) threw me off more than I expected.
