Difficult Negative Malaysia

I accepted the interview through a job agent situation, even though I hadn’t originally been interested in the client role. I knew some Chinese, but I was shocked that the interview ended up being fully conducted in Chinese without any warning.

That turned the interview into a genuinely bad experience for me. The experience was new and stressful in a way I hadn’t anticipated, and I wasn’t prepared for the language demand. Afterward I felt like the process was implicitly aiming at people who were comfortable with Chinese-education backgrounds.

Difficult Positive Boston, MA

My process had a lot of phone-to-in-person motion. It started with one or more phone conversations where different people asked questions based on my experience and how I thought through problems. There was also a sense that each interviewer brought a slightly different angle, since my questions varied across the rounds.

After the phone stage, I met the hiring manager face to face and then continued with additional discussions with other managers and team members. There was often a week of spacing between parts of the process, so it didn’t feel like everything happened in a single sprint. When I finally got in-person, the tone stayed fairly pleasant and conversational, but it still came with “situational” style prompts and career-related questions.
