After the recruiter call, I had a 1-hour technical assessment on HackerRank that felt like code-pairing. The setup was straightforward: I had to solve a practical problem while talking through my thinking in real time, not just getting the code to work.

The focus was heavily on domain-specific frontend knowledge in whatever stack I said I preferred—React/JavaScript/Angular or other FE tech. They also explicitly expected me to explain my approach and walk through how I was optimizing the solution as I went, including tradeoffs in how I structured the code. Even though it was “just” one hour, the pacing made my explanations part of the challenge.

My loop started with a recruiter screen and then moved quickly into a technical screen that was LeetCode-only. It was notable that they didn’t use JavaScript at all, even though the role was frontend.

The technical part included two problems: one easy and one medium. What surprised me was how much emphasis there was on efficiency. They had built-in tests that I had to pass, and when I submitted an O(n) solution, it wasn’t what they were looking for—they wanted a faster approach that ran in about O(sqrt(n)).
