I was a new graduate applying for roles, and I remember being sent a code challenge to complete. I struggled with it, but I was still called back for an in-person interview, which felt surprising given how poorly I thought my submission went.

When I arrived, I had a long wait and then an interviewer told me to give him a moment. He came back about 15 minutes later and said my answers to the challenge were awful—without even looking at my code until I was sitting in their office. That moment was shocking. I also got the sense they were more focused on how I’d perform in the interview than on actually reviewing my work from the challenge.

My process started with a recruiter contact and felt pretty professional from the beginning. There was an initial screen with leadership, and once they felt there was a fit, I was given an online HackerRank test. The test was challenging but manageable within the time limit, and it set the tone: they wanted to see real coding ability rather than just theoretical answers.

After the online step, I went to an in-person interview that lasted a few hours. The vibe was professional but laid back, and I remember how personable the interviewer was. At the start of the onsite, I was greeted by talent acquisition, and then I moved through multiple rounds with different developers. Each round lasted around 40–45 minutes and usually had one or two questions, often including an algorithm/ds focus. In one of the sessions, they also probed how I approached developing high-traffic servers or databases, and I did some live coding where they walked through my programming decisions.
