Average Positive New York, NY

After I applied online, I heard back from HR within about a week. The first round was a 30-minute behavioral and background interview focused on my experience and fit. Shortly after, I did a one-hour technical screening with a team member where the questions split between SQL and Python, and it felt pretty structured and “by the book” compared to other processes I’d seen.

What surprised me was how much they supported the timeline—before each round they sent a detailed PDF guide, which made prep feel less like guessing and more like knowing what they were measuring. Even though I still had to be quick, the process felt smooth end to end, and the recruiter also walked me through what to expect, including discussing why Shopify, sharing my proudest project, and covering my salary expectations.

I went through a more case-study-heavy path. My first technical stage felt like SQL-focused problem solving with Python coding mixed in, plus a short assessment-style component. It wasn’t just “write queries and stop”—it pushed me to show how I think through tasks and translate the intent into working code.

For the later stage, the format shifted into a marketplace-style case study where the work leaned into coding-based analysis. Alongside that, I also had to do a life story style portion and then talk deeply about one of my past projects. Overall, it felt like a progression from foundational SQL/Python execution into deeper interpretation and storytelling about my technical choices, and the whole thing matched the role well even though it demanded a lot of sustained effort.
