I went through a pretty tough, four-round process. It started with a standard recruiter screen, then I had a deep technical discussion with another data scientist. What stood out was how granular they were—I had to walk through essentially every concept from my resume in detail, including the technologies, the projects, and even what my day-to-day work looked like. The conversation kept going back to the “why” behind my choices, not just the tools I used.
After that, the plan was to move on to a hiring-manager-style round and then a final conversation with the head of data science. I didn’t make it to those later stages, so I never got to experience how those rounds felt. Ultimately, I was rejected after the technical depth of the second round, and the biggest takeaway for me was realizing how important it was going to be to defend every small decision I’d previously treated as straightforward.
