Key Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer here, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of your services. You will contribute to the design, development, and operation of platform components that enable other teams to build and deploy applications effectively. Collaboration is a daily necessity; you will frequently work alongside Product Owners, Cloud Architects, and Security teams to ensure that your deliverables align with the broader goals of STACKIT or the respective corporate department.
You will be expected to drive projects from concept to production, which involves writing high-quality code, creating comprehensive documentation, and participating in the on-call rotations that keep our systems running reliably. You will also play a role in shaping our technical standards by contributing to architectural reviews and advocating for best practices that improve developer velocity and system stability.

- Experience level: A proven track record of designing and deploying distributed systems in a production environment.
- Soft skills: Exceptional analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Nice-to-have skills: Experience with cloud-native security frameworks, familiarity with large-scale data management, and contributions to open-source projects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long should I spend preparing?
A: We recommend dedicating 2–4 weeks of focused preparation, depending on your familiarity with large-scale cloud architecture and system design principles.
Q: What is the most important trait for success?
A: The ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic problem-solving. We value engineers who can build elegant solutions that also meet the immediate, practical needs of our users.
Q: Is there a specific coding language required?
A: While we use a variety of tools, our core focus is on your ability to apply engineering principles. If you have deep experience in one language, focus on demonstrating how you apply those core principles, even if your stack differs slightly from our internal tools.
Other General Tips
- Context is King: Always start by asking clarifying questions about the system constraints before proposing a solution.
- Know the Stack: Research STACKIT and our commitment to digital sovereignty; being familiar with our mission will help you frame your answers in a way that resonates with our team.
- Articulate Trade-offs: Every technical decision has a downside; explicitly stating the pros and cons of your chosen approach shows seniority and depth of experience.
