The process felt a bit all over the place, mostly because the number of interviews was high for what ultimately didn’t land. When I finally heard back, the rejection message was generic, which didn’t feel great after so many steps.

The one spot that felt less defined was a VP-level conversation, where it wasn’t obvious what topics would come up, and that uncertainty made the preparation feel fuzzier than the rest.

The point was to make all the provided tests pass, which meant I had to be careful with the business logic—things like updating balances and positions correctly.
Once I submitted, I moved into a technical discussion with the team. I had to walk through my code and explain the design choices in detail, not just what I wrote. They then widened the scope beyond the implementation and asked backend questions around concurrency, endpoint design tradeoffs, database indexing, and locking strategies—comparing optimistic vs. pessimistic approaches. The overall feel was challenging in a very specific way: I was being evaluated on how well my thinking handled real backend concerns, not just whether the solution worked.
