After a recruiter touchpoint, I eventually made it to rounds that felt almost mismatched in structure. I gave a seminar, which played out like a familiar job-talk format, and then I sat for a behavioral interview with a panel. The panel part stood out as odd—there was a large group of people, and the whole vibe felt unfamiliar compared with what I expected.
In terms of difficulty, the process didn’t really turn technical in the way I’d been bracing for. Even though I was presenting, nobody pushed into hard, deep technical questioning. When the day did include Q&A, it was more stilted than I wanted; I felt less like I was in a conversation and more like I was answering questions while everyone watched. Overall it left me feeling uneasy about fit and fairly surprised by how light the technical assessment ended up being. I didn’t get an offer, and I honestly appreciated the clarity that came with the decision.

My process felt pretty straightforward from the start. After applying, communication leading up to the interviews was clear, and I was told who would be interviewing me in advance. An early call with the hiring side set expectations about the overall process so I wasn’t walking in cold.
The main event was a job talk, followed by follow-up conversations that stayed in the usual lane for a research role—presentation first, then discussion with the people I’d be working alongside. The panel was made up of friendly, smart folks, and the questions felt grounded in my work rather than trying to catch me off guard. When the timeline moved to the decision, I was notified that I didn’t get the role, which I appreciated because it was respectful and timely. The whole experience leaned positive even though the result wasn’t what I hoped for.
