Easy Negative San Francisco, CA

I started with a Zoom call with the hiring manager that felt pleasant, and then another call with the recruiter that was mostly about whether I wanted to continue. I was told the next steps would be coding plus a take-home project, and once I shared my availability, they scheduled four hours of interviews on a single day. It wasn’t communicated ahead of time that this would basically function like a virtual onsite, and I ended up trying to make it work rather than pushing too hard.

The day started with two fairly straightforward coding exercises, then there was a short conversation, and after that I received the take-home prompt for what turned into the main event. The assignment was essentially a HIL test management and dispatching stack that I was expected to build and then present and discuss. The prompt was very explicit about what they wanted and not to over-engineer it. My presentation ended with the work passing all the test cases they cared about, but the feedback was that I didn’t dive deeply enough into manual and automated testing details, so I didn’t get an offer.
