My interview process started in a pretty typical way: a recruiter conversation, then live coding with an engineer, followed by a home task. The first home assignment took me several days, and I remember finishing it with a lot of confidence that it was complete. But after I submitted, I just received an email saying they weren’t moving forward with no meaningful explanation.

That “no context” feeling became the dominant theme. In a separate attempt with a similar flow, the company rejected me after a take-home project even though the main issue was tied to following specific discussion-question instructions. The week after submitting, I was told I wasn’t progressing because I answered only one of the provided discussion prompts—exactly the portion the instructions said to address. I wasn’t even given a chance to reconcile how that was evaluated, which made it feel less like feedback and more like a procedural trap.
