My interview journey was long and very stakeholder-heavy. It started with HR, then moved through conversations with hiring management and multiple technical groups—system engineering managers, network engineers, and producers—before ending back with HR again. Over the course of it, I kept getting the same question from HR around whether I needed visa sponsorship, and each time the tone made it sound tentative, like budget and flexibility were limited.

When I spoke with the network engineering team, I felt the questioning wasn’t deep enough to really validate my knowledge. They asked fewer than ten questions total, and even after several years of experience, it didn’t become a conversation that got into the tricky parts of the work. The producers similarly didn’t ask anything that demonstrated a strong grasp of network engineering, and the overall vibe conveyed that there could be periods where the job demanded too much.
