Recruiting felt messy to me from the start. Even though the process itself had a reasonable structure, it stretched out over about three weeks largely due to recruiter latency. The overall interview load included a 30-minute presentation and then four 45-minute panel interviews.
The panel interviews didn’t feel like brutal, high-impact assessments; they felt more like vibe checks with broad, surface-level questions that were hard to answer confidently without a clear target. One interviewer even leaned into systems thinking questions related to vehicle dynamics. It wasn’t that the conversations were impossible, but it was tough to feel like I was demonstrating the competencies they were actually hiring for, and that uncertainty lingered throughout.

Difficult Negative Irvine, CA
My interview experience felt long and slightly draining, but it also stayed consistently “people-focused.” The process included a recruiter phone screen that I passed, then moved into interviews where the vibe was collaborative rather than intimidating. I also met with leaders across teams, and there were several one-on-one rounds completed over Zoom across a few days.
Across the journey, the technical component existed, but the emphasis leaned heavily toward behavioral fit—whether my mindset matched the team and how I talked through past work. One round even lasted about two hours and was technical, yet the interviewers were welcoming and didn’t try to put me on the spot as an early-career applicant. They seemed more interested in understanding my experience and mapping it to the role.
