My process followed a tight arc: a recruiter screening call first, then a presentation round where I had to speak as if I were already in the role, and finally a conversation with the team manager. After the presentation, the expectations were pretty clear in how they framed it—no hiding behind theory, I had to lead the way I would on the job.

I remember finishing the last interview and feeling like the momentum was positive. The people I spoke with were professional and the flow was consistent across rounds. Even so, the part that lingered afterward was that nothing came. I wasn’t given a real next step, and I was ultimately ghosted with no feedback.

I went through four interviews total, starting with the recruiter screen, then a conversation with the hiring manager, followed by a director of sales interview. After that, I had a prompt presentation, and I was told right after the presentation that they were extremely interested.

That’s what made what happened next feel especially brutal. I was then asked to complete a reference check, and after I submitted it, there was a stretch where I didn’t hear anything. When I followed up to understand the timeline, I was told I wasn’t a fit. Even though I’d been receiving positive signals up to that point, the final message landed like a reversal, and it left me pretty shaken.
