My interview loop felt very hands-on with the product. I started with a first conversation with a team manager who walked me through what they were looking for and asked about my career goals in a way that felt more like a real discussion than a checklist. A recruiter followed a few days later with the next steps, including a take-home project.

The assignment was designed to get me comfortable building in Retool, and it ended up being genuinely enjoyable because I was actually creating an app rather than just answering abstract questions. I finished quickly after familiarizing myself with the platform, and then moved into technical discussions where other support engineers asked me how I would debug and build features in the app. Those questions started easy and ramped up in difficulty over time, and I remember the interviewers being friendly and supportive throughout.

My first step with Retool was a single interview round with a Support Engineer. After that, I was assigned a take-home project that lasted about three hours.

At that point, I honestly didn’t keep going. I decided to withdraw my application because I ended up moving forward with a different opportunity. So even though I made it past the initial conversation and into the take-home stage, I never reached any later rounds or a final decision.
