After a recruiter call, I moved straight into a three-stage process. The first part was behavioral and fit-focused, where I talked through my experience and what I’d be comfortable doing day to day as a business analyst. It felt fairly standard, more about how I think and how I work than about any trick questions.
The hardest piece for me was the take-home assessment. It was designed to test both technical problem-solving and how I’d approach an ambiguous business question. I worked from an Excel file packed with information and leaned heavily on pivot tables to make sense of the data. I also wrote a script in a language of my choosing as part of the solution, which helped me tie the analysis together.

My process started small and straightforward. I had a recruiter-style conversation where they asked why I wanted to work there and then went into questions tied to my resume. A big theme was how comfortable I was with Excel and any other tools or coding I’d listed—so I wasn’t just stating proficiency, I had to expand on it, including describing a major problem I’d worked on and how I found a solution using the tools.
After that first screening, the later rounds shifted more technical. The overall vibe was that they expected me to show real expertise in the languages and tools I’d put on my resume, not just mention them. They also pressed me to be able to discuss their portfolio companies and to connect my understanding back to their work.
