My first interaction was a short 20-minute MS Teams screen with a talent recruiter. SQL came up early, and even though I’d written queries for years, it took me a moment to find the exact terminology and explain a few basic concepts clearly. Some of the wording and details felt harder to pull out in the interview format because I hadn’t used SQL recently.

The conversation pushed me to articulate my understanding, not just answer quickly, and I could feel myself second-guessing parts of the explanation. Still, I didn’t think the gap reflected a lack of knowledge as much as a temporary case of “SQL rust” that would probably disappear with real usage.

My journey was fairly compact: first I spoke with the hiring manager, then there was a technical round built around the product they supported, and afterward I met with a product manager in a managerial-style discussion. Overall difficulty felt moderate, and the hiring loop took about a month.

The way it was sequenced stood out to me—the process moved from role fit to how I’d think technically about their product, and then into a broader managerial conversation. I didn’t end up with an offer, but the process itself felt structured enough that I understood what each round was trying to evaluate.
