After a recruiter screen, my process stretched to about two months and ended up being seven interviews total. I moved from a hiring-manager conversation into a case study assessment, and then through three separate 1:1 conversations with stakeholders and teammates, some of which felt like mini-panels depending on who was on the call. The final step was presenting the case study to the manager’s manager in person.
Most of what I heard blended behavioral and situational prompts, and a lot of it centered on what they expected from the role day to day—plus whether I matched the culture they were building. Everyone I spoke with was kind and respectful, and the company stayed responsive while I was in the loop. It still felt like a grind because the timeline was so drawn out, with long waits that made the whole thing stressful.

Difficult Neutral Oakland, CA
I went through interviews for a senior program manager track and expected it to take most of the scheduled time. The session was set for about 45 minutes, but it wrapped up after roughly 15, and honestly that short end told me a lot. I felt like I answered too quickly instead of pausing to think through each question, and the panel’s nonverbal reactions made it clear they didn’t see the fit I hoped for.
The questions still felt thoughtful and very situational. I was asked how I’d handle difficult stakeholders, how I’d push through policy changes when there’s resistance, and how I’d make sure psychological safety stayed real at work. I tried to stay composed and structured in my responses, but I could feel myself not landing the way I wanted.
