I went through a two-phase process that started promising. First there was a remote interview that was about half an hour, and it covered some technical questions along with questions tied to my resume and experience. After that, I moved into a more involved onsite-style round with panels, and the theme stayed consistent: they dug into my background and how it related to what they were hiring for.

What really threw me off was that the role shifted after I’d already been aligned with one direction. I was told it was for an FPGA design position and that my experience matched. Then, during the follow-up team interview, I was immediately informed the discussion was actually for FPGA verification instead of design. I’d never had an interview change the job like that midway, and I almost didn’t finish the conversation. I kept going anyway and tried to answer the verification questions as best I could, even though it felt like the target moved under me.
