My Paylocity interview took longer and felt more demanding than I expected. It started with a recruiter touchpoint, then moved into director-level conversations and multiple manager rounds, with several steps spaced out by about a week. Most of it happened on Zoom, and the process felt intentionally deliberate.
The questioning got more detailed as it went on. I had to walk through behavioral examples, but I also spent a lot of time on background and experiential situations—enough that it felt like the phone screens did real heavy lifting before I ever got to in-person or director conversations. At one point I took an assessment after a director call, then followed it with more interviews that were tied closely to my background and how I’d performed before. Even when the recruiters were helpful and communication was generally organized, the overall difficulty matched the length of the process.

My journey followed a pretty standard structure: a recruiter screen first, then a leader round, and eventually conversations with managers and higher leadership. Everything was virtual, and the overall pace felt quick and organized, but still thorough enough that I didn’t feel like it was a rubber stamp.
In the interviews, the questions leaned heavily into situational and behavioral examples. I was repeatedly asked to talk through a real issue or customer/client question, what I did in response, how I handled it to resolution, and what the customer’s reaction was. At different points I also heard “what would you do if…” style prompts, and the interviewers kept coming back to how I worked through problems and communicated the outcome. One part that stuck with me was how much they focused on the story behind my experience instead of trying to trick me with abstract questions.
