My path in started a bit differently because I was coming in as a contractor. I first had a call with a recruiter at the contracting agency, and then I was scheduled to meet the hiring manager at PG&E if I was still interested after understanding the role. I remember being told not to lock myself into numbers with the agency until I’d actually met the hiring manager and discussed what the job would really look like and who I’d be working with.
When I eventually got onto Teams for the interview, it took about an hour and followed the typical mix of technical and behavioral questions. The overall difficulty felt average. I also walked away with the sense that some interviewers seemed disengaged, which made it feel more like a formal check-the-box conversation than a lively technical dialogue.

For me, the interview centered on infrastructure and operations. They wanted to understand how I would build out an application and then push it across multiple clients in a Windows environment, and it came with straightforward questions about whether I understood server environments and client OS details. I also had to talk through building a script rather than just describing concepts.
The tone felt friendly and respectful, and the engineering team asked technical questions that matched the requirements they had listed for the role. The process itself felt smooth, and in one version of my experience it even ended with an offer and a supportive employment path where recruiter, engineering, and HR were available to clarify questions.
