My Oracle process lasted over six months and turned into a marathon. It involved six interviews, with five of them being highly technical and each running more than 90 minutes at times. I managed to advance through the technical stages and even received a verbal offer where the role and compensation were discussed, but it was contingent on passing background checks.
In the very end, the decision flipped because the background check uncovered a medical condition that I hadn’t disclosed previously. It felt especially unfair because it wasn’t related to my technical performance, and after spending months getting to what looked like the finish line, the rejection wasted a huge amount of time and opportunity. Overall, it left me with the sense that the process was inefficient and didn’t reflect the effort I put into passing the technical evaluations.

Average Positive Austin, TX
After the recruiter call, I moved into a sequence of interviews that stayed pretty consistent in format. Next I had a phone call with a senior director who served as the hiring manager. Then I went in person for a technical discussion with a panel of three principal-level engineers and higher.
There was also another in-person round with the senior director, so by the end I had spoken across multiple levels of engineering leadership. The process felt fairly structured and role-aligned, and the difficulty tracked as average—enough to be substantive, but not the kind of thing that completely derailed my preparation. I didn’t receive an offer, but the overall loop felt like it was measuring me in a clear progression from recruiter screen to leadership and then deeper technical evaluation.
