What is a UX/UI Designer at OpenTable?
At OpenTable, a UX/UI Designer (often referred to internally as a Product Designer) sits at the unique intersection of hospitality and technology. Your work directly impacts how millions of diners discover, book, and experience restaurants worldwide, while simultaneously empowering tens of thousands of restaurant operators to manage their dining rooms, maximize seating capacity, and run their businesses smoothly. You will design solutions that cater to two distinct but deeply interconnected user bases: the consumer-facing Diner ecosystem and the business-facing Table Management System (TMS) and private dining platforms.
This role is highly strategic and requires you to balance consumer delight with complex B2B operational workflows. Whether you are optimizing the reservation flow on mobile devices, designing real-time floor plan editors for hosts, or crafting seamless private dining booking systems, your design decisions will directly drive business metrics for restaurants and shape the future of dining out. You will work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment alongside product managers, engineers, and UX writers to translate complex user needs into elegant, intuitive, and scalable digital experiences.
To succeed as a UX/UI Designer at OpenTable, you must possess not only exceptional visual and interaction design craft but also strong product intuition. You are expected to be a strong advocate for the user, utilizing data and user research to back up your design decisions. The team values designers who are proactive, highly collaborative, and capable of articulating their design principles and product critiques with clarity and confidence.
