I started with a recruiter screen that felt almost empty of content—there were no real questions asked of me, it was mostly a conversation about how the interview process would work.

A little after that, I went into the technical screen with a two-part coding task. The first part asked me to build a key-value store that supported operations like add, update, and delete. The second part was described as supporting more operations in that same general direction, but the only concrete details I wrote down were tied to the add/update/delete behavior. Overall, it was very structured and very task-focused, and the big thing that stayed with me was how direct the prompt was.

I started with an intro call with a recruiter, and then I was scheduled for an initial one-hour technical screening with a senior engineer. The coding problem was to code a next-generation version of Conway’s Game of Life. The interviewer didn’t provide much context beyond pointing me to an article, so I had to ask clarifying questions, think through edge cases, and then lay out an approach.

After I explained my plan and wrote pseudo code while covering time and space complexity, I was given the green light to start coding. I wrote the code, walked through it to validate the logic, and then ran through it. When I hit a couple of bugs, I fixed them and got the expected output.
