I was invited to interview at an office outside my home city, and I had already taken time away because the plan was set. I lived about an hour and a half away, so getting that in-person commitment mattered.

Then, just an hour before I was supposed to arrive, I received a call saying they’d already hired someone else. I’d already spent a day off and was already halfway there when the news came. It felt like they could have canceled earlier that morning or offered to move the interview to Zoom, but instead the situation was dropped at the last minute.

My process started with an HR screen where we focused mostly on my background and whether I had experience with the relevant technologies. I remember waiting close to two weeks just to hear back and get scheduled for what came next.
