Easy Negative London, England

My interview journey started with a screening step, then moved into two interview rounds followed by an assessment centre. The structure felt straightforward and clearly mapped out, even though it came with that competitive pressure that made it feel serious. I noticed a bit of an ice-cold feel from some interviewers, but the overall flow stayed organized.

Across the early interviews, the questions leaned toward what I’d done before and how I’d apply it, with an emphasis on technical questioning and how my past experience connected to the role. I kept getting prompts that were situation-based—how I’d handle uncertainty or respond if I wasn’t given clear guidance—alongside more traditional “why this firm” and “walk me through your experience” style questions. Even when the topics sounded familiar, the delivery made it clear they were looking for substance.

Difficult Neutral Budapest

My process started with a short HR call, around 20 minutes, focused on basics like availability, why this firm, and even why a specific location. The technical interview that followed with a London-based senior employee was a lot more intense. It covered typical investment banking topics, with both theoretical questions—like explaining types of debt and walking through valuation methods in detail—and practical, pen-and-paper calculation work.

After that, I felt the pressure rise because they expected me to be precise and to show my reasoning, not just give definitions. It was clear they were trying to judge both my knowledge and how I perform under a structured, fast-moving interview format. I didn’t get the offer, and the honest reflection I’m left with is that I underestimated how much they would lean on full-stack technical explanation and calculation skills in the later stage.
