My process started with an HR-style screening where we talked about my motivation and fit, plus what kinds of customer situations I’d handled before. The conversation quickly got technical in a practical way: I ended up discussing my understanding of databases and database engines, including how replication and high availability show up in real systems, and what different consistency expectations mean. I also had to explain how I approach conversations with customers and how I translate requirements into an architecture.
After that, I moved through a hiring-manager conversation and then stakeholder-style meetings. Across those rounds, the structure was consistent: a mix of behavioral questions and technical storytelling. One prompt that stood out was designing an airport control tower application architecture flow—talking through data models, how the system would use APIs, and how I’d think about reliability and availability. The questions were direct but not phrased like trick puzzles; it felt like they were testing whether I could communicate clearly and reason about tradeoffs.
