The prompt was to propose a fix for slowness, and I had to explicitly take into account Python overhead while making sure the approach would work across a whole suite of compilation targets. Caching came up as a requirement to reduce end-to-end time, so the conversation wasn’t just about improving one hot path—it was about how to structure the behavior so the results stayed consistent and fast.
The interview itself felt fairly reasonable, but what dragged the experience down was the follow-up. The HR process after the technical portion moved very slowly, and that gap made everything feel disjointed, even though the actual technical discussion went okay. I didn’t end up getting an offer, and the biggest lingering impression wasn’t the technical challenge—it was how delayed and unclear the closing communication became.
