Easy Neutral Berlin

My process started with a recruiter connection and then a programming assignment. In my assignment, the frontend part covered CSS and JavaScript, while the backend part was in Java, and the requirements were straightforward enough that I double-checked the work and believed it was correct.

Even with that, I didn’t move forward. Another time I was sent a programming test, but I declined to do it after feeling the process was beneath my time—especially given that there was no clear way to understand what was wrong if they chose to reject without explanation.

Average Neutral Berlin

I received a home assignment by email and completed it before moving on. After that, the timeline separated into a sequence of calls: first a Skype interview with a talent specialist, then another Skype interview with a programmer, and then an on-site interview.

The first programming interview really mirrored the assignment itself, with tests in CSS, JavaScript, and Java. When the on-site happened, it was long and split into two parts. One part went again with the same CSS/JavaScript programmer, and the other part brought in two additional programmers and focused heavily on Java. I was asked to write code on a whiteboard and then go deep into Java specifics. The role description said C# or Java was acceptable, and I was honest from the beginning that my stronger background was C#. Even so, the process proceeded in a way that made it clear they were using Java as the real gate.
