A little later I moved into technical conversations where the emphasis was on understanding financial statements and how to think with them, along with some practical tools and analysis concepts.

The technical portion felt like a mix of “prove you understand the fundamentals” and “prove you can explain them clearly.” I was asked about P&L, the balance sheet, cash flow, ratio analysis, and how I approached valuation and forecasting. Excel came up too—things like handling data with pivots and lookup-style thinking. Interleaved with that were personality and fit questions tied to how the work would feel day-to-day.

My process stood out because the early stage felt more like a live introduction than a typical screening. I had a HireVue that came with a “learn more about” style segment for GCB, and it included a case study. After that, there was a networking portion at the end, and what surprised me was how much of the outcome seemed to hinge on whether I made a noticeable impression during the networking.

I made it through to the superday after that, which was the next step in the sequence. The day itself was just the continued interview portion—multiple conversations following the HireVue—so the main “pressure point” for me was the earlier HireVue + case + networking combination. I found the overall difficulty to be manageable and didn’t feel blindsided by the structure. I didn’t get an offer, but the path was clear enough that I could see why some people advanced.
