After talking with the recruiter for about 30 minutes, I later met a hiring manager for roughly 40 minutes. We went through company policy and what day-to-day work would actually look like, including how shifts were handled and what kinds of tasks came up day to day. It felt fairly structured, and I walked away with a clearer picture of expectations.
The first technical round was essentially a deep dive tied to my background and projects. We started with my resume and experience, and then the conversation moved into Docker fundamentals and Linux fundamentals, plus the technologies I’d used in my prior work. Overall it felt like they were validating whether what I’d done mapped to the core engineering realities of the role.

Difficult Positive Sunnyvale, CA
The sequence started simple: a recruiter call to discuss my background, then a video interview with the hiring manager where we went over my resume and what made me a good match. We also covered hybrid policies and what on-call looked like day to day, including the schedule. That first part felt grounded in logistics rather than just generic questions.
After that, I had a 90-minute technical interview with the hiring manager and another manager. It was broken into multiple tasks, and I was expected to execute using Linux commands and troubleshoot with a fairly practical mindset. The environment was friendly and they were helpful, and they explained networking troubleshooting concepts in a way I hadn’t really connected before—things like the differences between ping behavior and traceroute, and how telnet interacts with firewall rules.
