Jefferies Interview Guide
Everything we know about interviewing at Jefferies: the process stage by stage, what each round tests, compensation by level, and reports from candidates who interviewed.
Interviewing at Jefferies
What the process looks like, and what Jefferies is really testing for.
Jefferies runs a multi-stage loop that mixes early HR or screening conversations with later, more senior interviews. Several role tracks include a timed component, including an online assessment and in some cases a coding assessment, before you reach rounds with VPs and MDs.
Across the roles in the dataset, the topics that show up most are Python, equity research, DCF modeling, financial accounting fundamentals, and risk analytics. Interviews also heavily test fundamentals, including the three financial statements and how they link together, plus financial modeling, VaR, and core data structures and algorithms in tracks that include coding.
In candidate reports, the loop is often described as moving from screens into technical and valuation focused later rounds, with superday style back-to-back interviews that emphasize pace and quantitative models. Reported overall timelines range from about two weeks to a month, with some candidates describing slower, drawn-out scheduling even when the technical content felt standard.
Even when early stages feel behavioral, multiple reports describe later rounds becoming more technical and valuation driven, especially around financial statements and discounted cash flow style thinking.

6 stages, based on 500 candidate reports.
Online Assessment or Coding Assessment
Not specifiedSome tracks include an online assessment and a coding assessment. At least one report describes an assessment mixing coding, SQL, and LeetCode style questions, so you should prepare for both programming and data/query style tasks if your application path includes this step.
HR Phone Screen / Initial Screening
About 30 minYou may have an initial 30-minute conversation with HR or a screening step that evaluates resume fit, behavioral fit, and basic qualifications. Reports describe resume walkthrough and motivation as core parts, sometimes paired with technical questions.
First-Round Interview
About 30 minA first-round interview is reported as a phone or video screen, often led by HR or a mid-level risk professional, focusing on resume and behavioral fit. Some reports describe this stage as heavily behavioral, but still note technical exposure in the broader loop.
Multiple Interview Rounds
Not specifiedAfter screening, you may go through multiple interview rounds that can include technical assessments, behavioral interviews, and case studies. Reports and the topic list show technical emphasis on valuation and financial statement knowledge, and for some tracks, Python and SQL related competencies.
Assessment Center (Europe, timed case study) or Final Interview Block
Not specifiedIn at least one reported variant, an Assessment Center includes a timed case study analyzing a company profile and presenting findings. Other reports describe final interviews focused on soft skills, leadership potential, long-term motivation, and collaboration with team members from different backgrounds.
Superday (Back-to-back interviews with VPs and MDs)
3 to 5 back-to-back interviewsThe superday involves multiple consecutive interviews with VPs and MDs from various risk teams, with an emphasis on quantitative models and situational challenges. Candidate reports repeatedly highlight pace and statement or valuation style technicals during this block, including DCF related thinking and financial statement work.
