My process started with a recruiter call, and then about a week later I did a technical screen that kicked off with a self-recorded interview. It was the kind of format where the questions are delivered through a video recording prompt, and I spoke directly to the camera while the system captured my response. That part stood out because it was straightforward but also awkward—you couldn’t ask follow-ups while you were answering.

Once that first recording stage was done, I moved into live conversations. I ended up with 1:1 time with the hiring manager and then additional 1:1 time with members of the team, each around half an hour. The tone felt professional and focused, and the questions were paced like a standard software engineer assessment: enough structure to test fundamentals, but still conversational.

My experience didn’t get off the ground the way I expected. After applying, there was a long wait before I ever heard anything back. When I finally reached the point where a recruiter could communicate, the update was that the position had already been filled internally—yet the job posting stayed up for weeks afterward. It left me feeling like I’d done all the “waiting” work for nothing.

In another stretch of time, I also felt caught in the loop of silence: I’d submitted and went through stages where I assumed there would be follow-up, and then months passed without any clear communication. Eventually I received a rejection with no obvious feedback, which made the whole thing feel opaque and discouraging.
