I applied through the IBM portal and got an automated email almost immediately inviting me to complete an online coding assessment on HackerRank. The assessment wasn’t proctored and I had about 60 minutes to finish two problems. It felt pretty straightforward on paper—two LeetCode-style questions—though the time pressure still made me move carefully.
After I submitted the assessment, I moved into the interview loop and got more technical follow-ups. The overall vibe was that they cared less about trick questions and more about whether I could clearly work through problems under mild constraints. I didn’t end up with an offer from this path, but the process felt fairly standard and organized, not chaotic.

Average Positive West Lafayette, IN
For this role, my experience started in a much more personal, lighter format than I expected. I had a coffee chat-style conversation where most of the discussion revolved around the projects on my resume and the experiences I’d already done. There were no coding questions at all, and it felt more like a genuine conversation than an interrogation.
The interviewer was friendly and it stayed relaxed throughout. I walked through what I’d worked on and what I learned, and the back-and-forth felt engaging rather than scripted. The atmosphere made it easy to explain my background without worrying about getting cornered on technical trivia.
