My first conversation happened directly with the hiring manager. The tone felt very scrutinizing early on, and I had the impression the focus landed mostly on the critical points in my résumé. The positive parts of my experience and what I was excited to do didn’t get much airtime, so I felt like I was spending too much of the time defending myself rather than discussing my technical background and motivation.
The questioning moved fast, with lots of questions in a short time window and only limited chances for me to expand on my answers. I also tried to ask my own questions about the role, the team, and expectations, but those parts were only partially covered, leaving me without a clear picture of the position by the end.

Average Neutral Singapore
The process felt professional and very focused on fit for the role and my technical background. I talked through my past development projects and how I approached problem-solving, and then the interviewer drilled into a mix of backend and full-stack experience. They asked about my experience with .NET and APIs, as well as databases and cloud services.
From there, we covered production support too, which helped me understand that they weren’t only looking for theory—they cared about how I’d operate with systems in real life. In another conversation with a hiring manager and a senior developer, we also combined behavior with technical questions. The technical part stayed at a general theory level, without coding, and covered topics like Java, SQL, and Git.
