Average Positive Boston, MA

I applied with an application letter and my CV, and the process stayed remote since I was applying from another country. After submitting, I eventually heard back and went through two interviews with a professor. The whole flow felt fairly straightforward: each step was clearly tied to assessing whether I could do the work, and I also had the chance to connect with people in the lab.

Later on, the timeline stretched out and the steps expanded beyond just professor conversations. I remember being asked to complete a writing task, then going into a panel-style interview before a final meeting with a director. After that, there was a reference check. Overall it took several months from application to the end of the process, and while the format was more structured than I expected, it still had that academic “slow and deliberate” feel.

Easy Neutral Canada

I interviewed for a postdoctoral fellowship supported through external funding, and the PI came across as professional—but disengaged and dismissive. The contrast between how the interview was conducted and how little the PI seemed to care was what stood out most.

I remember feeling genuinely confused about why I’d been brought in at all if the interest wasn’t really there. That mismatch made the process feel easy in terms of effort, but not in terms of respect or engagement, and it didn’t lead to an offer.
