I went through a fairly classic multi-round interview, and the whole thing stretched to about two months. I started with a recruiter screen, then moved into a mix of more personal discussions and technical evaluation. Across the technical parts, I worked through a coding interview in the language I chose and then had a system design conversation. The vibe was consistently respectful—people were kind and the turnaround between stages felt quick.
What stood out for me was how much they leaned on role-relevant communication alongside the coding and design work. In my system design interview, though, I felt the focus was off from what I was expecting for the position. The discussion landed more in the territory of building application/library-style engineering decisions rather than the specific kind of database design I associated with the role. I thought I handled myself well and stayed honest about my experience, but that round seemed to be the one they spent the most time on before sending the decline.

My process had a take-home element and a bunch of follow-up steps, and it was slower than I expected because it involved presenting the work. After a recruiter screening and a call with a future manager, I did a home assignment, then had a discussion about it before presenting. I ended up going through a full presentation flow, including multiple calls where I walked through what I built and how I approached the problem.
The work itself wasn’t what surprised me—it was the decision timeline. After the last presentation and wrap-up, they asked me to wait around ten days. When the decision finally came back, it was essentially that another candidate was better. That sting was made worse by how much time I’d poured into preparing the assignment and presenting it.
