Difficult Neutral New York, NY

I went through an initial phone screening that was built around brain-teaser style questions, and I remember walking out feeling like the early momentum was everything. The next step was an onsite that was intense and unforgiving: there were brainteasers again, and there was some coding involved during the day.

What threw me off was the way the onsite ended early. When I didn’t hit the mark on the first wrong answer, the rest of the interview window basically stopped and I didn’t get to finish the day as planned. The tone I experienced felt less like a normal back-and-forth and more like a hard cutoff once it became clear I wasn’t responding the way they wanted.

Difficult Positive New York, NY

I had a very research-focused start. A connection inside the firm forwarded my resume, which led to an interview with a quant. We dug into my research in a lot of detail, and then he gave me a brain teaser about coin flipping. I solved it correctly, and that success was enough to get me invited to the onsite at their headquarters in NYC.

The onsite was only partially successful for me. I interviewed with three quants in the morning, but I didn’t advance to the afternoon session. Even though the process felt pleasant overall, it was clear they were making quick judgments based on the morning interviews.
