My interview journey started with a technical screen that felt supportive but still very specific. I went into it with the expectation of typical JavaScript and React conversation, and I got questions that dug into fundamentals like how closures work, plus distinctions like shallow copy versus deep copy. Live coding was part of it too, inside their online IDE.
The live coding part was the bit that made everything feel harder than it needed to be. I was already a little nervous, and the environment behaved differently than what I’m used to—things like auto-complete/autoclosing timing threw me off just enough that I had to slow down. The interviewer stayed engaged and made it feel conversational rather than hostile, and overall the difficulty level felt reasonable once I got into the problem.

I went through a self-recorded interview step and then landed in a second round that felt much more like a JavaScript trivia test than an engineering conversation. First I recorded myself answering written questions, which was already a different vibe than a live interview.
In the next stage, the questioning focused on obscure JavaScript behavior and even included claims that some of this knowledge was “baseline.” I ran into details like how setTimeout behaves with a minimum throttle and how it relates to Promise resolution timing, even when the timeout value is set to zero. It was the kind of information that I wasn’t carrying in memory, and what threw me off wasn’t the concept itself—it was the expectation that I’d have that edge-case timing behavior memorized instead of looking it up if I ever needed it.
