What is a Mobile Engineer at ForeFlight?
A Mobile Engineer at ForeFlight is responsible for building and maintaining the premier flight planning and navigation application used by hundreds of thousands of pilots worldwide. Because pilots rely on this software in the cockpit under high-stress, safety-critical conditions, the mobile application must be incredibly reliable, highly performant, and capable of operating entirely offline. As a member of the mobile team, you will work on complex challenges involving real-time rendering of vector maps, seamless synchronization of massive aviation datasets, and precise calculations of flight paths and fuel consumption.
Your work will directly impact flight safety and operational efficiency for general aviation, military, and commercial pilots. Following the acquisition of ForeFlight by Boeing, the mobile engineering team has scaled its capabilities to support enterprise-grade aviation solutions while preserving the highly polished, user-centric design philosophy that made the app an industry standard. This role offers the unique opportunity to solve deep technical problems at the intersection of mobile systems architecture, geospatial data processing, and intuitive user interface design.
To succeed in this position, you must possess a deep understanding of mobile platform internals, a passion for clean architecture, and a meticulous eye for detail. You will collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, GIS specialists, and fellow engineers to deliver features that feel seamless and intuitive, even when executing incredibly complex calculations under the hood.
